Descending Into Darkness: Our journey began with a heart-pounding 100-foot rappel into the cavernous depths below. The tight descent felt like a plunge into the unknown, as we descended deeper into the darkness of the caves. It was a thrilling start to our adventure, setting the tone for the excitement to come.

Ziplining Through the Abyss: Following the rappel, we wasted no time in transitioning to the next phase of our adventure: ziplining through the caverns. Despite the relatively short duration of the zipline, the experience was nothing short of exhilarating. Gliding through the darkness, with no sight of the end in sight, added an extra element of suspense to the adventure.

Moments of Relaxation and Reflection: After the adrenaline rush of the zipline, we were treated to a well-deserved break on a cliff wall, complete with hot chocolate and cookies. It was a welcome opportunity to catch our breath, soak in the surroundings, and reflect on the incredible journey we were undertaking.

Exploring the Underground River: The water portion of the tour provided a refreshing change of pace, as we navigated the underground river system. Jumping off a 15-foot platform into the cold water was an invigorating experience, followed by a leisurely paddle upstream. Our knowledgeable guides regaled us with stories of Maori traditions and pointed out the mesmerizing glow worms that illuminated the cave walls.

Traversing the Cave System: As we ventured deeper into the cave system, we encountered a mix of walking and floating through the subterranean passages. Taking breaks for more hot chocolate and coco, we marveled at the surreal beauty of our surroundings. Climbing and maneuvering through the caves, we eventually emerged from a tiny opening in the ground, a testament to the extraordinary journey we had undertaken.

Conclusion: Our experience with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co on The Abyss tour was nothing short of legendary. From the thrilling rappel into the darkness to the serene float among the glow worms, every moment was filled with excitement and wonder. For the next experience the only thing I would do is bring some shampoo and soap with me down to the changing area. After the experience there are fantastic warm showers but I would have liked to feel especially clean for the rest of our days adventures. It’s an adventure we’ll never forget, and one we highly recommend to anyone seeking an unforgettable underground experience in Waitomo, New Zealand.
